THE 2021 AWARD WINNERS

Congratulations to the 2021 District 5 Award winners listed below. There were many deserving submissions, and it was great to learn more about everyone’s dedication to the laboratory animal field and to their communities. You have all shown commitment to the AALAS organization from branch to National level, and this organization cannot achieve their goals without hard-working folks like you. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do!

ALAT of the year

Connor Bolinger
University of Louisville

Connor started working for the Comparative Medicine Research Unit (CMRU) within the University of Louisville in April 2019.  During this time, he has shown great team work and leadership. He has a degree in Animal Science from Purdue University and passed his ALAT test soon after starting in husbandry.

     He spends his days working with rats and mice, however he has also trained with pigs, cats, and rabbits to assist with the large animal work.  He will soon begin training within our gnotobiotic core and has expressed his interest in being a back-up on the registry for our regional biosafety lab as well as training on census upkeep and learning to scan and reconcile census.

     Connor has shown great interest in being more involved with AALAS.  He is the currently the 2021 President-Elect for the Kentucky Branch and attended our District 5 meeting that was held in Louisville in 2019 only a month after starting with the UofL.

     Connor is an animal lover outside of the university as well, fostering multiple dogs.  He is currently in the process of adopting rats once available post-study.
